Description

ACL BIG END CONROD Bearings BMW E46 S54 M3

It is now well known that the original Conrod Bearings also known as BIG End bearings are common for severe wear on BMW Performance Engines over time, when maintenance and warm up procedures have not been adhered to. This can result in a catastrophic engine failure or wear on other components.

We highly recommend changing your bearings if they have not yet been done.

We also recommend changing the fixing bolts and upgrading to ARP Conrod Bolts.

COATED BEARINGS
Long term players in the performance engine bearing industry ACL RACE Series Performance
Engine Bearings & Calico Coatings have formed a collaboration to offer users an additional option in
performance engine building. ACL and Calico are, respectively, technological leaders in the fields of
performance engine bearings and performance coatings. Both companies have exemplary
reputations for quality, performance & knowledge in their areas of specialization.

ACL engine bearings have been coated by Calico for individuals for over 15 years, with proven
compatibility and an established track record of excellence in the most exacting and extreme
performance applications.
ACL and Calico both have rich histories in motorsport, the racetrack is the perfect proving
ground. This alliance culminates in the release of ACL offering a range of Calico coated ACL RACE Series
Performance Engine Bearings. The coated range is available through all current ACL distributors.

Our coated bearings combine ACL’s tough RACE Series lining and overlay metallurgy with Calico’s
well renowned CT-1 coating.

CT-1 is a Dry Film Lubricant coating that helps reduce friction and abrasive wear. It provides
intermittent dry lubrication and is not affected by dust or dirt. CT-1 is specifically engineered to
withstand the extreme conditions of today’s high performance engines. Professional engine builders
enjoy a higher level of confidence with increased embedability, strength and durability.

CT-1 coated bearings have shown a reduction in oil temperatures as much as 8°C – 11°C / 15 ̊F – 20 ̊F.
Lower oil temperatures also aid in the loss of viscosity due to extreme heat.

More About ACL:

The ACL group is a key player in the Australian automotive components market, distributing components and manufacturing engine bearing materials. They also provide powder metallurgy parts and gaskets. The company produces one of the largest ranges of automotive replacement engine bearings for Australian, American, Japanese, European and English motor vehicles. This helps to serve the Australian engine re-building industry and replacement market but also exporting to over 55 countries throughout the world. With its strong market share and proven product quality, the Group is a leader in the market with long-term customer relationships and a vertically integrated structure that provides a strong and stable platform for future growth.

Why ACL?

There are many performance engine bearings manufacturers all over the world so why should you pick ACL? The unique combination of design, metallurgy, and engineering come together to deliver what drivers expect from high-performance Trimetal engine bearings.

  • Designed to withstand higher RPM conditions
  • High strength overlay plate with reduced thickness for improved fatigue properties
  • Hardened steel backs on all rod bearings to improve the support of the bearing lining and assist with bearing retention in the housing.
  • Elimination of flash plating on the back of the bearings to improve heat transfer through the bearings and to maximize the grip between the bearings and its housing.
  • Increased eccentricity to compensate for bore distortion at high rpm and to assist in the formation of hydrodynamic oil films.
  • 3/4 grooved Main Bearings to optimize bearing load carrying surface area and oil flow to the conrod bearings.
  • Tight consistent wall tolerances to help you maintain consistent clearances.
  • Enlarged ID chamfers on bearing edges were required to accommodate large fillet radius on performance crankshafts.
